Born in South Africa in 1963, Alistair Butt moved to the UK as a teenager. After leaving school Alistair studied art at college for four years and then spent a further 3 years at college where he specialised in illustration. He pursued a career as an illustrator and graphic designer leaving in 2004 to become a full time artist.
Working in both oil and watercolour, Alistair Butt paints primarily landscapes and it is the light that fascinates him providing the starting point for many of his paintings. He is able to skilfully capture the light in all its forms whether it be the shimmering highlights on a stream, the sunlight shining through trees or the long winter shadows on snowy ground.
Alistair Butt is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Many accolades have followed and his work is in many collections internationally.
