Darren Baker has exhibited continuously at Beckstones Art Gallery for several years and has become increasingly collectable. Darren Baker was born in 1976 and exhibited outstanding artistic ability from the age of seven. He attended Bradford College of Art, and not long after graduation was exhibiting in London and at the age of 23 in New York. Darren Baker works in pastel and oils, often taking weeks in the preparation and creation of a single painting. His range of subject matter is rare in its absolute variety and fits within the genre of classical realism. Darren Baker has completed contemporary paintings on a range of art subjects including interiors, portraiture, figurative, equestrian, landscape and ballet. But it is Darren Baker’s still-life and interiors that have secured his reputation and wide critical acclaim. His figures and portraits have also earned him many accolades and his portraits now hang in rooms at 10 Downing Street, St James Palace, the Vatican, the House of Lords and the Professional Footballers Association. He was the official artist for the London Olympics 2012 and completed a commission of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. In 2013 his black and white drawing of the late Baroness Thatcher raised a staggering £40,000 at the Conservative Party Summer Ball. Recently he has completed a £90,000 commission for the Bahrain Royal family. The Sunday Times has described his work as ”thrilling and virtuosic” and he has received numerous art awards including best artist at The Fine Art Trade Guild ceremony in London and the prestigious Garrick Prize. Darren is now acknowledged as one of the world’s leading painters of the classical realism genre.
